The Chronicles Of Chitrangada Part VIII { Moonlit Night }

Flash forward to the villages where
There’s panic and disorder fresh
“Where is your warden, pray?
Why are you all in such distress?”
“Valiant Arjuna, our warden’s away
No one knows where or why;
And as she stepped out of this kingdom
The northern robbers rob us by and by…

While she guarded our estate
There was no evil, no ill fate
Neither treachery nor any crimes
Any man could initiate
But those dark nature’s misery
Have only struck us till date.”

Arjuna returns to the maiden
That watches him lonely in thought
“Who is this princess Chitra
That womanly though, has warriors fought?
“I know of her as too masculine a lady
Who can’t win our hero’s heart.
She has no lovely dark eyes like mine
And her figure’s no art.

Sir, do you desire a lady
That has the virtues of a man?
That you escape from my arms yet again
To save these foreign lands?
She is but a prisoner in the walls
Of ragged clothes; her heart’s enthralled.

“I desire to know more
Of Chitra and her brave tales
I imagine her riding a white horse
A bow in one hand, in another the reigns,
Her arms adorned with courageous strength
A fierce lioness crowned with a mane.
Oh let us ride side-by-side, dear
Out of these shephali-lined lanes.

Chitra with a lovely wish
Turned towards the prince now,
“What if I could shake off this softness
Like a cloth from me and sow
The seeds of a daring sword
Arjuna, you will look at me how?”

He spoke aloud how he felt about
The lady before his eyes.
How he never could uncover the golden picture
Hidden in her, how much ever he tried
“I grope for that ultimate you,
That bare simplicity of truth.”
Her eyes welled up- Arjun:
“My darling, have I hurt you?

Ah! Forget what I have said
With the present I’ll be content
Let each separate moment of beauty
Come to me like a bird of mystery”
And so Chitra’s story goes by
And so Chitra’s story goes by.
