Note: The following article represents my point of view and is not written to hurt the sentiments of the public or society.
The following video has undergone intense public scrutiny- receiving both criticism and appreciation. Lets get this straight, I understand the reason behind the video and intentions that it was written with. However, as most people who are under constant spotlight like- Deepika Padukone, everything she does and says is micro-inspected. Like Eminem once wrote in his song "White America" about being famous -
"...that's why they put my lyrics up under this microscope, searchin' with a fine tooth comb, its like this rope, waitin'To choke, tightening around my throat, watching me while I write this, like I don't like this,
Nope, all I hear is, lyrics, lyrics, constant controversy..."
See Deepika? This is what happens when you don't listen to the rap god.
The pro-feminine changes taking place in our society which is infamous for discrimination of the fair sex is encouraging. Almost everybody in this country now-a-days,
irrespective of gender would be supportive of gender equality. Trust me, a guy can be as sympathetic towards this issue as most girls out there are. That's what we want- an equal opportunity for everybody. As far as legal leverage goes, I don't think people would mind if women are given certain rights which enable them to feel protected and content in the society. I think our society "owes" them this after decades of suppression.

The very crux upon which this video was based was the concept of "empowering" women. To make them aware of their humanly rights and freedom. It's all good and I am all for it. However, if every person in this world were given the freedom to do anything they like, the entire concept of a society and community would fall apart... One could steal and nobody would stop them because they were born free into this world... One could beat up the other to death because they felt that the existence of that person in this world was unnecessary... One could litter roads and walls because they have the freedom to spit anywhere in this world. In short, there would be disorder and pure anarchy.
I love the way some people took the meaning of video to another level by joking about it! Humour at it's best.
Damn.
Right about a day or two after the video released, it went viral on the internet. The video spread like wildfire and trended as the most rad and debatable topic. Even Asia's most critically criticised critic - KRK (Don't you dare google KRK!) had legitimate points to criticize the video... Naah.. Joking! He was as shite as he always has been. However there were people who had a well thought out comment to make -
Can't really argue with that.. can you?
I am not a male chauvinist, nor a feminist. I am an 'equalist' (If that makes sense..) and I agree that the "sex" part made me cringe. Why would you do that? I believe that you have freedom of choice only when there is no subsequent consequence of your decision and actions in the lives of others.
This video also raised an uproar of opinions which is buried under an undertone -
Nobody talks of men's choice .. do they? Yes, I agree a male is subject to a lot less judgement and restriction than women. However, that does not mean that it is entirely non-existent. Let's be honest, a guy "accused" of inappropriateness is more prone to public beat-ups and going to jail than an accused female. Just saying! So to all the girls out there who want revenge on their ex-es. Just sue that man with a false accusation.. it's that easy! *(Sarcasm intended, because it is so good that certain people tend to believe it.)
For all the haters of man fart -
Deal with it.
Something bothers me is that it's a 'Vogue' - a fashion brand initiative. No, there is nothing wrong with a company trying to indulge in social welfare. Something that us- commerce students are taught is that any economic entity bar public sector companies exist to maximise their profits. The fancy term "GOODWILL" is used to denote the 'intangible asset' which enables a firm to earn more. Nothing fishy there!! Isn't it? I am waiting for the time when they come out with a new line of jeans which has #MyLife #MyChoice sewn on the back pockets. I simply can't! I bet they will set the record for highest earners in the market.
Something positive that comes out of all this is the fact that women seem to realize what feminism actually means and they are completely unbiased towards certain things said in the video. What I had expected was a battle of sexes. However the sympathy and understanding shown by women to be completely fair and just moved me to a great extent. It makes me happy that women are on the same page as we are and recognize things that seem egoistic. I applaud them for this act of selflessness and justice.
In the end, what people want to believe about this video is their choice! However, something that all of us can agree on is - the script was poorly written to begin with. Or perhaps a controversy is what Vogue aimed for at the first place... the competition in the market is tough.. and a company's gotta do, what a company's gotta do!
