All India Bakwaas?

"I am going to do some bakwaas,
so please, do not give me vanwaas."

 - The "Ram" within us

Disclaimer/Preface/JUST READ IT BEFORE YOU READ ANYTHING ELSE OKAY?

This article is not written to have a go at AIB, or the people with the opinion that what they did was right or wrong. This article solely represents my views on the topic and seeks to make people with the same opinion, come together. This disclaimer was important for those ignorant and butt-hurt people who are going to cry if something is said against the things they like.

It was a night...most anticipated...which people had never experienced before. It was our first night. We had to open our virgin minds to the touch of the roast. We were soon to experience what America had all these long years. Now, the turn was ours. The night was smooth, as the nation took every breath in perfect unison. What each breath meant, people did not know. Some breath were of laughter while some of angry sigh. As it most often happens, the morning after is the deciding factor of everything, and the nation was broke into two. A part of it wanted to find warmth in the covers of laughter while others wanted to disappear into the world of cataclysm and never return.

First of all; No, I haven't watched the entire roast. I have watched the first part and certain clips. The reason that I never got beyond the first 20 minutes of the show was because I found it disturbing. So I did not watch it. That's what you are supposed to do right? If you don't like something, you ignore it. Irrespective of it's presence in other's life. Let people decide for themselves if they like a certain event or not!
However, there has been a a cry for ban on the show and people seeking to sue the creators for it.
I ask them (because the nation wants to know) {ARNAB STYLE} - Why are you so jobless? Don't you guys have a life to live? A family to feed? A nation to save?

I agree to the fact that there were jokes made which might have been offensive to certain people, but come on! Are you like a bunch of 5 year olds who take offence when somebody comments on the size of your diapers? Just take it on your chin and move on. Why let somebody else's jokes piss on your bonfire?
There were a lot of clean and clever jokes that were cracked during the course of the show, why not appreciate that?

If you don't like it, don't watch it! If a 17 year old can understand this simple thing, why can't others?

On the other hand, the feeling that I had, and failed to cement into words was done perfectly by Aamir Khan. Since he has been misquoted a lot by journalists all around the entertainment world (Hire me, I'll do a better job than they do!) The following is the full, uncut comments of Aamir Khan on AIB roast - (I urge everyone to watch it

Aamir Khan's comments doesn't only show that there are still sensible people remaining in our country but also that everything that is scrutinized has to be given equal chances. The fact that such a talented group of comedians had to abuse, to make people laugh, is no less than disappointing. One might argue that the entire format of a "roast" is supposed to be like that; why not change it up a little bit and ease up on the abuse accelerator? Be the bigger person and perhaps crack jokes which makes sense rather than cuss just for the sake of cussing. Those who defend it for the freedom of speech (Artistic Freedom) are as ignorant as those who cry to ban it.

Haven't you learnt from Spiderman yet, people? How many times will they have to re-make it for you to understand that -

And AIB, being a famous group has the responsibility to be sophisticated and sober in their speech. Sheesh! Can't we even respect the last words of a dead man? Don't you know every-time Uncle Ben's wise words are forgotten, Peter cries? Look at that face! Don't you feel any shame in making the poor man cry? What else could Uncle Ben possibly say to make you understand the simple statement?

Also, I think AIB aren't foolish enough to believe that anybody under 18 would not be able to watch the video just because there is a disclaimer given at the beginning. Which brings me to the last segment of the article -the criticism that Aamir Khan's received for making the comments. (Well, Well! What a surprise! We, being what we are as usual Hypocrites. AIB has the freedom of speech, but Aamir Khan doesn't, right?) Some people say that he made Delhi Belly which was equally as "profane" as the show was. Yes, he did, but that didn't target an individual or a group for that matter. It was in 2011 anyways, 4 years ! People change, every-single-day!

At the end, he wasn't critical of the show. He said quite clearly, it was HIS VIEW and that if AIB abided by the law, they have nothing to regret and do not deserve to be banned for the event.

Its a pity that AIB had to take the video down. Most of my friends loved it. I am sure, AIB never intended to spark a controversy. Most certainly, its a pity to see them have to publish an open letter to public making their intentions clear and apologising... They haven't done anything to go through such a difficult phase. What they did was to try to bring a revolutionary idea into a very conservative society which was bound to backfire. India can never be America, and I suppose it'll take a very large movement to get our society out of the rut it's been stuck in. The event was supposed to be light hearted. But what do you know? There is a lot that we would never understand about us. What we find offensive and what we don't, however, we can only hope that one day we are able to open-mindedly accept everything that comes along the way....Keeping our morals intact of course. I think its a process, to find that perfect balance between acceptance and rejection. Until then, incidents such as these will shape the society's views. Bringing about unanswered questions and raising conflicts which I hope without much intensity, is solved.
