Forgotten Bands and Lonely Hearts

Sometimes when I think about my childhood, I think of the times I used to play computer games such as Fifa '07 and Need For Speed Underground 2. Although, the thought itself is very bizarre, but these games that I played as a ten year old, shaped my taste of music (at least English music). I was born as a 90's kid in India, which meant most of the Hindi music that I heard was from radio. Hindi music, as people would know, has always been pre-dominated by Bollywood film songs and will always be as far as I can predict. So the change of taste in Hindi music was out of the equation. However, coming back to the topic now, English songs back then were a whole new experience to me. I couldn't relate to it, yet, somehow, my soul danced to their tunes. It was then that I realized that music, irrespective of lyrics, language and words, has an innate ability to connect to any individual on this planet. Even if it is a four month old infant or a seventy year old oldie, or an Indian listening to French rap songs or Germans listening to opera; music has the key to a person's heart. Of course listening to music can have other agendas, for example- to fit into a group or perhaps have a common pathway to make your way into your crush's heart. Music, on the retrospective, has influenced a lot of things in our lives that we fail to realize; not only for an individual, but a community too. Bengali music's pinnacle for example, has always been Tagore songs(Rabindra Sangeet). It has always represented Bengal, not as a state, but an individual when it's come to music.
Indirectly, music also manages to alter our state of minds. If we are singing a happy song whilst we are down, it can single handedly pick us up. Music, like any other art form, has soul. Some of us might still be lonely, without companions to share the passions with, but as soon as you turn on the music, you'll find one of the most faithful companions who will be there, whenever, and wherever you need them. Music, is a companion who holds your hands and walks you through the darkest catacombs, and does so - unconditionally. In a sense, it is one of our soul-mates.
If you ever listen to a song carefully, the words along with the melody, you'll realize, that every time that you listen to it, it conveys a different message. The words never alter, the music never changes, however, the spirit of a song is such, that it shape-shifts to meet our humour.
From infancy, uptill now, there have been many songs I would have heard. Some have left deep scars on the skin, and some have moulted away. Yet, every one has a legacy, a story to tell. Our stories are closely bonded with the song that we used to hear at that point of time. So if you hear a song which you had discovered long ago, you are bound to recall the things you went through at that point of time. They are like the clothes we wear, we might discard some of them and keep the others as a memorabilia. However, when we see the fabric again, the memories come rushing back.
So, although there might be bands out there who are forgotten, bands not yet discovered or lonely people who yearn to feel wanted, there is every song out there to match your legacy.
