Map Vs Compass

Recently, as I was "browsing" through the prodigious world of internet, I stumbled across a blog of a singer. The lead singer of 'I fight dragons' - Brian Mazzaferri. Now, this guy isn't  that famous (Why?) because he hasn't got his own Wikipedia page which suggests so.(Ironically, this man can't fight dragons either.) Anyhow, being an admirer of a person's thoughts, I would've never backed out without reading any posts. Although the guy had stopped posting on his blog since last year, I found his vision and ideas surprisingly refreshing and positive.

Here is his last blog post:

"I've always been someone who wants a map.  Goal-oriented people are all about maps, because they tell you where you are going and how to get there.

The trouble is, maps aren't very effective in times of constant change, because they become outdated by the time they're published.

I think the more important tool in these times is a compass.

It's the itch.  It's practice.  It's mastery.

It's completely abandoning the map.

Who knows where you'll end up?  I certainly don't

But at least I know that I'm heading in the right direction."

Considering that this guy is less known among all the artists in the international music industry, he sure does have a strong character and a bright insight about life. It is something we lack at times. We sure love to plan out our life and stick to it. I am not saying that those who do are by any means wrong in doing so. All I am saying is sometimes it's okay to let yourself go with the flow. Often, we immerse ourselves deep into thinking about future and ponder in it that we forget to live the present. The present becomes a mere soulless memory in which we never really lived life as it was.

For Mr. Brian, I wish him an adventurous journey through life with his map... Oops, I mean compass. :)
