I've
never been a big paramour of T.V shows, may it be Hindi or English. But
recently, I've been watching a lot of English shows, especially - 'One Tree
Hill'. In one of the recent episodes, it was quoted - “There are two
tragedies in a man's life, one is to lose your heart's desire and the other is
to gain it." Such is the impact of T.V shows on the contemporary
world and in my case 'One Tree Hill' that I am impeded to write on
it.
'Life
is never perfect' - Something we all experience. One of the possible explanations is,
it’s meant to be that way. We spend our lifetime in making things which, in our
lives went wrong - right. This game of life is never fair but nor it is biased.
We cry over spilt milk and that life never gave us another chance, but if we
ever stop whining about how life's been unfair to us and truly seek
to put the past back behind us, carry on and try to be what we've always
wanted to, life always presents us with opportunities. It's upon us if we have
the will to seek it. This defies its bias tendency but when we have
opportunities there is always something we must lose. This unveils life’s
unscrupulous nature. In order to acquire something, we must abnegate something
we hold most dear. There are several unwritten rules of life, it's one of them.
Losing
one's heart's desire is indeed, tragic. Creating opportunities to fulfill what
one's heart yearns for is a difficult task in itself. But when we crave
something and don't get it, do we give up, losing your heart's desire? Or do we
keep seeking it until life itself gives up to our heart's desire to fulfill
what we have always dreamt of? We all have choices, it is always difficult to
chose, but in the end it's not about how much life's given you, it's about how
much you have taken from it. You can always choose your ways and what you want
to be, it's upon us to make the right choices and take the best out of
life.
On to the
other face of the topic, is it tragic to gain your heart's desire? It's
something which differs to each person. An optimist would have answered the
question negatively whilst a pessimist's opinion would
be antithetical to that of the optimist's. It's a magical feeling
when you gain what you've always wanted, you can't get enough of it. We want it
to be there with us forever. But some may say that sometimes, or most times,
the happiness fades away in due course of time. They say that the journey
to achieving what our heart's desire is what matters. Once you get it, it
becomes irrelevant, sometime down the line there would be new aspirations which
would take over. And the one's you achieved won't matter
anymore. But I say if we really were passionate about it, it never wears out
and stays with us forever. Another aspect of it is - sometimes, we confuse our
desire with greed. Greed of materialistic things which drives people to commit
"infra dignitatem" acts which cripples the humanity within us. More
to the point, for me getting what your heart desires is contentment rather than
a tragedy.
And there is a desire building with my heart which I would like to fulfill in front of you. It is to reframe the quote to my own liking - "There is only one tragedy in a man's life, which is the sorry state of not believing that one can achieve what their heart desire and making a tragedy out of life which was never meant to be"
Wish you all a "tragedy-free" life.
Thank you
